EDF is launching a three-year partnership with Prostate Cancer UK to fund research into the disease which is set to become the UK’s most common cancer by the end of this decade.

The company aims to raise a total of £300,000 for the charity between now and 2023.

EDF CEO, Simone Rossi commented on the collaboration: “We are delighted to be partnering with Prostate Cancer UK over the next three by raising money to help save men’s lives and to shine an important light on this disease.

“Every penny we raise is going to help fund vital life-saving research, support from specialist nurses and much more.

“Our ambitious target of raising £300,000 over three years will really help the charity to do great things for men and their families.”

The money raised will be used to fund research into better diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

The company also wants to raise awareness of the disease, particularly among its male employees.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK and is predicted to become the most commonly diagnosed cancer overall by 2030.

Around 400,000 men in the UK are living with the disease and one man dies from it every 45 minutes.

New data show that, in 2017, the number of deaths from the disease in a single year exceeded 12,000 for the first time.

Prostate Cancer UK was chosen by EDF staff who voted in support of the partnership earlier this year.

Prostate Cancer UK and EDF will launch the partnership at several of the company’s sites where dozens of fundraising events will be held over the next three years.

Jon Eserin, Associate Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, added: “We are so grateful to all the staff at EDF for selecting Prostate Cancer UK as their charity partner.

“We’re looking forward to kickstarting a series of exciting fundraising initiatives over the next three years and working together to ensure that every EDF employee knows the risks of prostate cancer and what to do if they, or a family member, face a heightened threat.

“Prostate Cancer UK’s top priority is to find better tests and treatments that will transform the disease into one that the next generation of men will not fear.

“The money raised through our work with EDF will go a long way to helping make this ambition a reality.”
