ANGLIAN Water has become the first business outside of the emergency services to use a live-streaming technology to help engineers plan routine work during lockdown.

ResponsEye, a live-streaming tool from Capita has previously been used by the emergency services to generate a live-feed from a caller’s phone as an incident unfolds, so the appropriate resources can be deployed to help.

Anglian Water engineers are using the programme to plan customer-side installations remotely during lockdown to keep both staff and customers safe.

Iain Amis, Anglian’s Head of Development Services, commented on the new innovation: “The ResponsEye system will allow our staff to complete site visits and inspections much more effectively.

“The live streaming capability will allow one member of staff to share their findings with others who may be located elsewhere, helping to reduce our social interaction wherever we can while continuing to progress with essential work.

“The applications of the technology are endless, and we’re hoping to use the software across the wider business to find and report leaks, assess our infrastructure, and support customers better.

“It’s going to help our staff to work remotely and socially distance, but it will also improve efficiencies in a range of areas.”

The technology in ResponsEye enables an individual with a smartphone to live stream footage from their phone’s camera, via a secure link, into a desktop application which can then be shared between teams at the receiving organisation as required.

Andy Hamlyn, Capita Software’s Managing Director, added: “We are delighted to be working with Anglian Water and are extremely pleased to see ResponsEye being embraced by a leading water company.

“It is a fantastic tool which supports social distancing of their key workers, whilst ensuring stability of service and supply across their region.

“We look forward to seeing how it can help transform operations for the rest of the industry.”
