A NEW campaign has called on the government to include large-scale heat pumps in its plans for the future of low carbon heat, Association for Decentralised Energy has announced.
The Pump It Up campaign said the government’s proposals under the ‘Future of low carbon heat’ consultation would “impose an effective ban on large-scale heat pump projects, with proposed support restricted to off-grid domestic settings and rare district heat initiatives.”
The Pump it Up campaign argues that the policy document – Future support for low carbon heat – released by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy in April, with its concentration on off-grid domestic installations, places large-scale investments at risk.
The group says the decision, which is under consultation until July, places at risk a raft of innovative decarbonisation investments, from clean supermarket cooling to the net zero warming of university campuses to a new, low carbon future for British horticulture.
The omission of support for bigger green heat projects amounts to an “effective ban” on large-scale heat pump projects, the campaigners warned.
The group said it has requested a meeting with Business Secretary Alok Sharma and with Cabinet Office ministers to discuss their concerns.
