NAKED Energy, a collaborative enterprise of scientists, engineers, designers and entrepreneurs, has announced their invention has achieved Solar Impulse Foundation’s ‘Efficient Solutions Label’.
Following a rigorous independent selection process, Virtu, the company’s solar solution that combines solar thermal and photovoltaic to provide heat and power, has been acknowledged as ‘an innovative technology that could help save the world.’
After the first solar flight around the world in 2016, Bertrand Piccard and the Solar Impulse Foundation launched the second phase of selecting #1000solutions that can protect the environment in a profitable way, and bringing them to decision makers to help them adopt more ambitious environmental targets and energy policies.
Christophe Williams, co-founder and CEO of Naked Energy, commented on the news on social media: “When you start a company, you always dream (pray) that one day it will be successful and go on to achieve something meaningful.
“That dream for Naked Energy has just taken a big step towards being fulfilled.
“Naked Energy is honoured and privileged to be recognised in this way. We will continue our endeavour to scale Virtu, in order to provide businesses and communities around the world with clean, affordable and resilient energy.”
The Foundation works closely with the World Alliance to assess the solutions that can gain the recognition of the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label, linked to the United Nations Sustainability Goals.
The Label is designed to highlight existing Solutions that are clean, profitable and have a positive impact on the quality of life.
Virtu is an evacuated tube PVT (Photovoltaic Thermal hybrid) collector offering a high-energy density solution for the built environment, ideally suited to commercial flat roofs.
Bertrand Piccard, founder of the Solar Impulse Foundation, added: “If an airplane has succeeded to fly day and night without fuel, then we can power our world on clean energy.
“Each time I speak of protecting the Environment to heads of state or government officials, they tell me that it is too expensive.
“This Label is a strong message to them: solutions exist and represent the biggest market opportunity of our century. An opportunity which cannot be missed.”
