The latest water industry performance data has been published by water companies for the year 2020/21, Water UK, a trade association which represents the major water companies of the United Kingdom, has announced.

This is the first year that new ways of measuring performance, introduced by Ofwat as part of the 2019 Price Review, have been used.

According to Water UK, this means that comparisons with performance data reported in previous years are not possible.

Performance figures for individual companies are reported in annual performance reports which can be found on company websites.

According to Water UK, the data shows that:

  • Overall leakage was 3,008 million litres per day
  • Water supplies were interrupted for, on average, less than 10 minutes per customer
  • The amount of water used per person in England and Wales (Per Capita Consumption) was, on average, 153 litres per day*
  • There were 6,079 sewer flooding incidents

The Discover Water website will be updated later this year to reflect the new ways of measuring company performance.

The updated website is expected to be live in the autumn.

*Per Capita Consumption was hugely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic which greatly increased the proportion of time spent at home, driving up water consumption.
