The government has launched a consultation seeking evidence how renewables will be deployed beyond the fourth allocation round of Contracts for Difference (CfD) mechanism and what this may mean for the future of the scheme.

With this consultation, the government is seeking to ensure the right the right policy framework is in place to support renewables deployment that is required to reach the UK’s climate targets.

In particular, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) are calling for evidence on how their policies can achieve these three objectives:

  • Maintaining growth in renewable deployment to meet net zero targets
  • Ensuring overall system costs are minimised for electricity consumers
  • Supporting and adapting to innovative technologies and business models
